The MAKE ART! Artist Awards and Fundraiser is an annual celebration hosted by THE CR8TV HOUSE that honors local artists whose work uplifts community, creativity, and cultural storytelling. The event brings together artists, neighbors, and supporters for an afternoon of art, conversation, and collective giving, while raising funds to sustain programs, exhibitions, residencies, and creative opportunities for Black and Brown artists in Milwaukee.

The name of the award comes from Lisa Turner who visited her daughter's dreams with instructions to "Make Art" out of her life. This award shifts the narrative and honors Black and Brown artists whose work and practice are often under funded, ignored or dismissed.

What awards are given every year?

2 MAKE ART! ARTIST AWARDS are given out once a year to artists via a nomination process.

Past recipients of the award nominate 2 artists to which our artist selection committee.

The community award is decided by the community via a nomination form.

Supporters beyond the first 35 will also receive an invitation to visit and tour the house during our open house experience later in the day. Every year, your support helps make it possible for us to continue building space for artists, preserving stories, supporting memorykeeping, and nurturing Milwaukee’s creative community.
