The Black Family Archive.

  • The community archive is open to anyone who is looking to learn more about family and community. This includes but is not limited to researchers, artists, students and visitors year round. 

  • The Community Archive includes artifacts of the Black Family Aesthetic, archival photos, and more. 

  • The collection was initiated and inspired by the family artifacts from Anthony Swan and Lisa Turner. 

Community Archive Collection with a Focus on Family and  Activating Place

Recognizing the importance of activating place, the archive and gallery emphasizes creating a welcoming environment for the stories of Black families in Milwaukee. This space is designed to hold the narratives and memorabilia of Black family life, fostering a sense of cultural continuity. Activating the place ensures that the collection becomes a living, breathing entity, deeply connected to Black folk’s influence on the overall community's identity.

Artists Residencies 

Provide resources and support for artists of Black, Brown and other artists of color.

  • Center the imaginations, stories and experiences of Black artists and creatives.

  • Offer mentorship programs, residencies, grants, and resources to assist artists in developing their skills and expanding their influence.

  • Each residency will offer increased confidence, skills, and opportunities for Black and Brown artists to make, share and talk about their work.

Community Archive

  • The collection is a living, breathing entity, deeply connected to Black folk’s influence on the overall community's identity. All programming works to support and model this.

Exhibitions + Dialouge

Curate exhibitions that address specific complex problems faced by urban communities.

  •  Regularly host exhibitions, workshops and community gathering featuring the works of Black and Brown artists that focus on social justice, racial equity, and other pressing community issues.

  • Increased visibility and discourse around these problems within the community and beyond. Increased access for Black and Brown artists to compete for meaningful opportunities.

  • Create space to use art as a vehicle to host important conversations.

Gather and Belong

  • Facilitate community engagement and collaboration keeping art has the through line.

  • Workshops, seminars, and community events designed to involve the public in the artistic process and discussions.

  • Increased interaction between artists and the community, fostering a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

Support for our general operations provides essential funding for THE CR8TV HOUSE to address capital improvements and continued renovation, maintenance, utilities, and insurance needs that make our mission possible.
